Why Water?

As I have worked with students in college classrooms over the past several years, I have come to believe that the insights they have gained, and everything they have taught me while I tried to teach them, are important for a larger audience. Water is shaping up to be one of the most critical challenges of life on Earth in the 21st Century:

  • Water is part of our natural world, but it is also a vital component of who we are in a psychological, emotional, and spiritual sense.
  • Despite how vital water is, in developed countries most of us spend most of our time ignoring it or taking it for granted.
  • Our attitudes toward water shape our responses to water challenges we encounter.
  • Everyone has ideas, opinions, and feelings about water, but few have stopped to consider how those ideas, opinions, and feelings intersect with the science, politics, and economics of water.

Through this blog and website I hope to foster an environment where people of all backgrounds can learn more about water, explore their relationship to water, and have thoughtful dialog about the future of water.
